Sangareddy: Andole MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran onTuesday said the BJP and its Huzurabad Assembly constituency candidate Eatala Rajendar are opposed to Dalit welfare in Telangana.
Speaking to the media after burning an effigy of Rajendar in Jogipet town, the MLA said the BJP candidate and the saffron party had stopped the Dalit Bandhu scheme for political gain in the Huzurabad by-election. They also staged a sit-in on the busy highway to send a message to the Election Commission of India (ECI)
Stating that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had introduced several schemes for the welfare of various sections in the State, Kranthi Kiran said the former had discussed the Dalit Bandu with cabinet ministers, SC MLAs, MLCs and MPs in February when Rajendar was still a Minister. The BJP and Rajendar lodged misleading complaints with the EC alleging that the TRS government had come up with the scheme to gain in the Huzurabad by-election, he said.
Dalit Bandhu was launched as a pilot project in Huzurabad before the election notification was issued, Kranthi Kiran said, and urged the EC to permit the State government to continue with its implementation. He said Congress had also colluded with BJP to stop the implementation of Dalit Bandhu in Huzurabad.
He said the Chief Minister introduced Dalit Bandhu for their upliftment since they had remained backward in the country even seven decades after the country achieved freedom. Many Dalits were living in huts and temporary houses on the outskirts of the villages since successive governments had failed to come up with concrete steps for their welfare, he said. Since a majority of Dalits were struggling financially even today, the Chief Minister decided to extend Rs 10 lakh financial assistance to each family to bring about a change in their lives, he said, and demanded that the BJP government at the Centre extend Rs 50 lakhs to each Dalit family if it was really committed to the welfare of Dalits in the country.
