Karimnagar: BJP leader Eatala Rajender faced the wrath of Dalits in the Huzurabad Assembly constituency on Wednesday when they held protests against him in several areas for writing a letter to the Election Commission of India seeking suspension of the Dalit Bandhu scheme in the constituency.
A letter purportedly written by Rajender to the EC to stop the implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme in the constituency went viral on various social media platforms. Enraged by the BJP leader’s move, Dalits staged protest demonstrations in Veenavanka, Valbapur and Mamidalapalli and burnt copies of the letter. They raised slogans against Rajender and in praise of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
Addressing a press conference in Huzurabad, SC Development Corporation Chairman Banda Srinivas slammed Rajender for writing to the EC against the implementation of Dalit Bandhu. “The entire Dalit community in the State has come to know about Rajender’s letter. He has been posting messages on social media platforms stating that he had not written the letter. If he hasn’t written the letter, let him speak directly with the public. Why should he take to social media for this?” he questioned.
Rajender, who used to speak about the uplift of Dalits, should appreciate the Chief Minister for launching the scheme, which is aimed at their socio-economic empowerment. Instead, he wrote to the EC against the scheme, he said. Speaking on the issue in Illandakunta mandal, Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar termed Rajender as a person who was out to malign the Dalit communities and had shown his true colours. “Rajender, who worked as MLA for 18 years and Minister for seven years, never worked for the welfare of Dalits. Instead of working for the development of downtrodden sections, the BJP leader focused on amassing wealth,” he said.
