Hyderabad: EndoBronchial Ultrasonography (EBUS) technique plays an important role in efficient and early diagnosis of lung cancer and tuberculosis, and enables specialists to see the abnormality directly and obtain samples precisely from the abnormal areas, senior pulmonologists from Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City, said on Sunday.
Addressing nearly 500 lung specialists from South India, the Head of pulmonology, at Yashoda Hospitals, Dr V Nagarjuna Maturu, in a one-day International Conference and Live workshop, said the EBUS technique has inherent advantages over other diagnostic procedures.
Nearly 50 senior faculty from across India including Dr Amita Nene, Secretary, of the Indian Association of Bronchology, senior pulmonologist from Hyderabad, Dr A Jayachandra and Dr Pattabhiraman from Coimbatore shared their insights and imparted training to the participants.
MD, Yashoda Hospitals, Dr G S Rao, who inaugurated the workshop, said “EBUS is increasingly being used as a first line investigation of choice for diagnosis of various diseases like TB, sarcoidosis and lung cancers. It is also used in lung cancer to assess the extent of the spread of the tumor within the chest.
