Hyderabad: There has been extensive dialogue on making places compatible for the differently abled and providing employment to them, but Echoes Living Room, a Hyderabad-based restaurant has gone one step further. In order to initiate a healthy-conversation on employing the differently-abled, the restaurant is run by staffers with hearing and speech impairement.
According to Sahib Sarna, the co-founder and director of Echoes, their aim is to create a casual diner/bistro brand with a focus on generating employment for those with special needs. “We want to bring them to the forefront in the society and create a restaurant where warm interactions are just as important as the great food,” says Sahib.
The name says “Echoes”, with an emphasis on echoing the concerns of the hearing and speech impaired section of the community and their employability. Every aspect of the restaurant’s functioning from front-service to the kitchen to cleaning, is taken care of by these staffers.
“The place is termed ‘Living Room’ along with the word ‘Echoes’ as we also want to create a comfortable feeling to our guests and create a space where there is no judgement and everyone is validated,” shares Sahib.
