Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao assured that measures would be taken for demerger of five of the seven mandals of erstwhile Khammam district that were merged with Andhra Pradesh to facilitate construction of Polavaram project. He said the seven mandals were merged with Andhra Pradesh in a hasty manner and as a result, a part of Bhadrachalam town was also merged with Andhra Pradesh posing a problem for locals who have to pass through AP twice to travel within the town.
“I took up the issue with the then Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and the then AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who responded positively. However, no further progress was made due to elections. The YS Jaganmohan Reddy government too has agreed to return these mandals to Telangana, but is hesitant to taken any action in this regard. We will take up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the all party delegation meets him on the Podu lands issue,” the Chief Minister informed the State Assembly on Friday.
