Hyderabad: Industry body Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) will make efforts to conserve the menhirs (prehistoric time erect stones) at Mudumal village in Narayanpet district, TITA global president Sundeep Kumar Makthala said on Wednesday.
The menhirs, which date back to 5000 BC, can be turned into a tourist spot and efforts will be made to protect them using artificial intelligence techniques, said Makthala, who visited the megalithic site, where a depiction of star constellation has been identified. Archaeologists believe that menhirs were used for weather observations (astronomical observatory). However, due to a lack of information, the place remains neglected.
TITA members met Anjappa, on whose farm the menhirs were first discovered. The farmer said he had surrendered his land to the government and that he did not get enough compensation for his land, Makthala said.
Makthala said that due to lack of conservation, menhirs which are a dozen in number, are neglected. He said that efforts will be made to preserve the site. AI techniques can be used to preserve such sites and turn them into a place of tourist attraction, a release said.
