Elderly buffalo herder drowns in Godavari river in Mancherial
An elderly buffalo herder from Rangampet village drowned in the Godavari river near Mulkalla in Hajipur mandal while tending his herd. His body was recovered by divers a day later after police launched a search.
Mancherial: An elderly buffalo herder accidentally drowned in the Godavari river while at Mulkalla village in Hajipur mandal on Monday. His body was retrieved from the river on Tuesday.
Police said that Kayithi Mallaiah (56) from Rangampet village met a watery grave while reportedly quenching the thirst of a herd of buffaloes in the Godavari river as he was not familiar with swimming. His body was brought out from the river by expert divers.
Mallaiah, who left for herding buffaloes, did not return home till late on Monday evening. His family members approached the police who in turn launched a search for the shepherd. The body was spotted at a deep place in the river on the outskirts of Mulkalla village.
A case was registered. Investigations were taken up. The deceased elderly man is survived by a wife and two children.
