It is not right on part of the ECI to impose restrictions on my public meeting. Some people had even filed cases to stop a public meeting in Nagarjuna Sagar byelections.

Hyderabad: In a strong message, TRS President and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao advised the Election Commission of India (ECI) to exercise its autonomity and maintain its dignity as a Constitutional institutions rather than succumbing to pressures from others. He cautioned that the EC was crossing its limits by objecting to his public meeting scheduled to be held in Huzurabad constituency ahead of the bye-elections.

“It is not right on part of the ECI to impose restrictions on my public meeting. Some people had even filed cases to stop a public meeting in Nagarjuna Sagar byelections. As a senior politician, a responsible president of a political party and also a Chief Minister of Telangana State, I want to know what could ECI achieve with its decision? More people are listening to my speech through live telecast of this meeting, than those who could have attended the public meeting,” Chandrashekhar Rao said, while delivering his presidential speech at the TRS plenary session being held at Hitex here on Monday.

He ridiculed the numerous attempts of the Opposition parties to stop him from holding public meetings which was a democratic right in an election process. He pointed out that some leaders were also filing cases in the courts to restrain him from holding public meetings and wondered what sort of politics were they.

The Chief Minister also urged people of Huzurabad constituency especially the Dalit families not to get disheartened by the ECI decision to stop Dalit Bandhu scheme. He asserted that none including ECI can stop implementation of Dalit Bandhu scheme after November 4 when the model code of conduct ends in Huzurabad constituency. “TRS candidate Gellu Srinivas Yadav will win the bye-election with the blessings of voters of Huzurabad constituency and will resume the scheme as your MLA after November 4. He will implement it successfully,” he added.

Chandrashekhar Rao assured that the Dalit Bandhu scheme will be implemented for all the Dalit families before the end of December this year where the scheme is being implemented on pilot basis. Upon successfull implementation, teams from the remaining constituencies will visit Huzurabad and study the scheme to replicate it successfully in their respective constituencies. “I am also going to visit all constituencies where the Dalit Bandhu scheme is being implemented on pilot basis. By March next year, the Dalit Bandhu will be implemented in all Assembly constituencies on a pilot basis,” he assured.
