Hyderabad: An engineering student died while her friend was critically injured after the scooter she was driving was hit by a truck at Gandimaisamma junction in Dundigal on the city outskirts on Thursday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Meghana (20) from Gajularamaram and Sumana Sri (21) from Kukatpally. Both were friends and third and fourth year students of a private engineering college in Dundigal. According to the police, the mishap occurred when the duo was proceeding on Meghana’s scooter driven by her, from their college towards Kukatpally.

When they reached near the Gandimaisamma crossroads, Meghana slowed down a little and the truck hit the scooter from behind.

“Both fell on the road, with Meghana dying on the spot with grievous bleeding injuries. The injured student was shifted to a nearby private hospital. She is kept under observation,” said an official.

The Dundigal police booked a case against the truck driver and arrested him. The vehicle was seized.
