Enrolment of BJP MP as ex-officio member in civic body with zero BJP presence sparks political intrigue

The enrolment of BJP MP M Raghunandan Rao as an ex-officio member of Isnapur municipality, where the party has no elected councillors, has triggered political speculation as Congress and BRS vie for control ahead of the chairperson election.

Sangareddy: The enrolment of BJP MP from Medak M Raghunandan Rao as an ex-officio member in Isnapur municipality has raised several eyebrows, as he is set to use his vote in a municipality where the BJP failed to win a single ward. The Medak MP would now have to extend support to either the Congress or the BRS.

Though the BJP had won a good number of wards in Jinnaram and Narsapur municipalities, he chose to enrol as an ex-officio member in Isnapur, which political pundits believe indicates that he may already have an understanding with either of the two parties. While the BRS won 12 wards in Isnapur, the Congress secured 10 wards and Independents bagged four.

Meanwhile, Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy, who is backing the BRS, also enrolled as an ex-officio member. With this, the BRS strength increased to 13. However, the party still needs the support of one more member to reach the magic number.

While the BRS is trying to secure the support of Independents, the Congress would require the backing of all four Independents to capture the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts. At the same time, the Congress is also making a serious bid to poach BRS councillor-elects over the past few days.

With the election of the chairperson and vice-chairperson just hours away, Isnapur is set to witness intense political activity until the last
