Ensure 100 percent attendance in Govt schools, Khammam Collector tells teachers

Khammam: District Collector VP Gautham has advised the teachers to ensure hundred percent attendance in government schools in the district.

The Collector made a surprise inspection of Zilla Parishad High School at Madhira in the district on Saturday. On finding poor attendance of students in the classes he expressed anger at the teachers and questioned why attendance was poor even as 20 days passed since reopening of schools. The future of students depends on teachers, hence they should shoulder the responsibility of making all students attend classes by visiting the houses of absent students. Parents have to be educated to send their children to schools regularly, Gautham suggested.

Later, the Collector visited the houses of students who were absent. He interacted with students and their parents enquiring about the reasons for the students’ absence in the schools. Engaging school going students in work or marrying them off was illegal and action would be taken if anyone found committing such acts, he warned. He told the teachers to work in coordination with Madhira Municipal Chairperson M Latha and the ward councillors to see that every student attends classes. He examined the teachers’ attendance register and found that many teachers were frequently going on leave.

Gautham instructed the education officials to take action against the teachers who were absent from duties on a regular basis. Earlier in the day he took part in the Madhira Municipality budget meeting where the municipal council approved budget proposals for the year 2022-23. He said the Stage government was giving utmost priority to the development and beautification of towns by allotting huge amounts of funds. The municipal bodies have to make efficient use of such funds and also make efforts to increase their revenue.
