Ensure eligible beneficiaries get quality food: TSFCC Chief

Mancherial: Telangana State Food Commission Chairman (TSFCC) Kommula Tirumal Reddy told the district authorities to take steps to make sure that eligible beneficiaries would be provided with quality food. He toured Mancherial district and then convened a review meeting with authorities concerned at a guest house of SCCL in Naspur mandal centre on Friday.
Tirumal said that everyone should be aware of the National Food Security Act and must be involved in effective implementation of it. The Act envisages satiating the hunger of the poor and to end deaths caused by starvation. Steps are being taken to cover all the eligible beneficiaries. Telangana state is supplying better quality food to the beneficiaries, he stated.
The Chairman further said that nutritional supplement food was being given to pregnant women, children aged below 5 and new mothers. As per the provisions of the Act, 6 kilograms of rice is being provided to families belonging below the poverty line. A control room was created for addressing grievances of the beneficiaries, he said, asking the authorities to create awareness among the public over the facility.
Tirumal said that Telangana accounted for 2.90 lakh white ration cards and told the officials concerned to conduct a social audit of food grains given to Anganwadi centres. He wanted the authorities of the Civil Supplies department to visit fair price shops every month to monitor the implementation of the food security Act. He asked them not to show negligence in discharging duties.
Collector Bharati Hollikeri said that Telangana had the largest number of beneficiaries of the food security scheme in the country and steps were taken for procuring paddy grains from farmers. She stated that steps were being taken to issue white ration cards to eligible beneficiaries after verifying applications soon. Education department’s Regional Joint Director K Satyanarayana Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Narender, District Rural District Officer Seshadri, District Civil Supplies Officer Premkumar, District Welfare Officer Uma Devi, DEO Venkateshwarlu and many others were present.
