Hyderabad: In a major drug bust, the Balanagar SOT officials, along with the local police, nabbed a gang which includes a police constable from Andhra Pradesh , while allegedly planning to sell Ephedrine laced with cocaine at Jaya Nagar in Kukatpally on Monday.
Officials seized a total of 820 grams of the drug, valued at over Rs 1 crore.
The arrested individuals have been identified as: Gunasekhar, a serving police constable and drug supplier from Tirupati; U. Surendra, a job aspirant from Tirupati; D. Haribabu Reddy, Ch. Mercy Margaret, Shaik Mastan Vali, and Devaraju Yesu Babu, all from Bapatla; and Appanna, a drug peddler from Bengaluru.
According to the police, Gunasekhar, currently serving in the Task Force wing of the Andhra Pradesh police, had proposed the sale of Ephedrine for profit. Surendra, attracted by the prospect of easy money, joined the conspiracy and involved his associates to sell the drug in Hyderabad, where there is high demand.
Surendra had earlier become acquainted with Mercy Margaret, who previously worked at a private finance firm, and lured her and others into the plan by offering attractive commissions.
On May 29, Surendra collected 820 grams of cocaine-laced Ephedrine from Gunasekhar in Tirupati and travelled to Hyderabad via Guntur.
On June 2, the group gathered in Kukatpally and planned to distribute the contraband among themselves for further sale to prospective buyers when they were apprehended and the drug was seized.
