KARIMNAGAR: The erstwhile Karimnagar district is all set to play a vital role in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency MLC elections since most of the voters are from the district. About 45.12 percent of voters for the polls are from the erstwhile district. Around 3,55,159 voters including 2,26,765 (male) and 1,28,392 (female) registered their names for the graduates’ constituency elections.
Out of 3,55,159 voters, 1,60,260 are from Karimnagar and the remaining 1,94,899 belong to Medak, Nizamabad, and Adilabad districts. The second highest number of voters are from Medak (70,663) followed by Adilabad (69,134), Nizamabad (47,984), and Hanamkonda and Jayashankar Bhupalpally (7,068).
The number of graduate voters is high in the district especially in Karimnagar, since it has emerged as a hub for education as well as medical facilities. Besides educational institutions, medical colleges, private hospitals, and other business establishments are there in the town.
This has led to several educated people from north Telangana settling in Karimnagar.
With the situation being thus, political parties and contesting candidates are focusing more on the erstwhile Karimnagar district. The candidates are continuing their campaign by camping in Karimnagar.
As the MLC election is likely to have an impact on the forthcoming local body polls, political parties are leaving no stone unturned to capture the seats. The graduates’ constituency has 42 Assembly constituencies. While the Congress has 23 MLAs, the BJP has seven legislators, and the BRS has 12.
Out of six MPs, the BJP has four and the Congress two. As there was little chance of meeting every voter directly, candidates were conducting Athmeeya Sammelanams in different places by mobilising graduates.
On the other hand, party in-charges have also been appointed to keep in touch with voters and to mobilise them to the polling stations on voting day on February 27. One in-charge is being appointed for every 25 to 50 voters, it is learnt.
