Hyderabad: “It’s my hand, my gun and my game. Once I have lined up to shoot the target, I just switch off to avoid any kind of distraction and focus on the task,” said shooter Esha Singh, who won gold in the recent World Cup in Munich.
Speaking at the felicitation function put up by Lifespan Private Ltd after she won the World Cup gold recently, for which she is the brand ambassador, Esha reminded that there will be pressure in any competition.
“Yes, some chill out before the start of the event. Some girls love to chit chat, some tend to be serious. But, personally, once closer to my turn of shooting, I just switch off mentally and try to stay focussed,” the champion shooter said.
“It is great to win a World Cup gold and it could not have come at a more appropriate time than ahead of the Asian Games later this year,” she said.
Esha credited her fabulous journey in the world of shooting to her parents who not only believed in her but also gave the kind of freedom to enjoy the sport, without putting any pressure, especially when she switched over to shooting from badminton in her early days.
Dr. Narendra Ram Nambula, Founder and CMD of Lifespan, said “Esha Singh’s historic achievement is a proud moment for the entire nation. As Lifespan’s Brand Ambassador, she represents excellence, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of success. We are honoured to celebrate her achievement and remain committed to supporting sporting talent that inspires future generations.”
Dr. Narendra presented a cheque of Rs 3 lakhs and a silver coin to Esha for her outstanding achievement at the felicitation of Esha in the presence of her parents.
Mr Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to Telangana Government, lauded the parents for mentoring Esha in such a disciplined manner. “Winning World Cup gold is a wonderful achievement and I am sure Esha is going to win many more in the days to come. I am really glad that she chose a brand like Lifespan which advocates good health rather than any other brands which have nothing to do with sport,” he said.
SATG VC & MD Soni Bala Devi, Mr Gareth Wyn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, were the guests of honour.
Earlier, as a mark of respect, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of the late Jaspal Rana, recognizing his immense contribution to Indian sports shooting and the lasting inspiration he provided to young athletes across the nation.
