Estonia to strengthen ties with Telangana
Ambassador Katrin Kivi to meet Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday to extend the nation’s MoU with the State and deepen collaborations across core technology domains
Hyderabad: Europe’s most digital nation Republic of Estonia, which signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Telangana in 2018 for co-operation in areas such as the information and communication technology, cybersecurity and blockchain, is going to renew its MoU to further deepen its ties with the State.
Katrin Kivi, ambassador, Republic of Estonia, who is on her second visit to Hyderabad told Telangana Today, in an exclusive interview, “We are going to meet Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday and extend the MoU that we have with the State. In addition to earlier recognised areas, we see opportunities to work together in artificial intelligence, legaltech, digital health, agritech, fintech, edutech, smart cities, smart mobility, and cleantech segments.”
“I have already seen several Estonian companies, particularly in the e-health segment such as Viveo Health, expanding presence in Telangana. Estonian digital technology companies Proud Engineers and Cybernetica are already serving the Hyderabad market,” she said.
Kivi plans to discuss with the Telangana government how both sides can collaborate in key areas such as e-health, data security & integrity and cybersecurity, at a time when the world is impacted by the Covid pandemic and digital adoption has seen a rapid surge. “We are eager to promote cybersecurity capabilities as Estonia has set benchmarks in this space already,” Katrin Kivi added.
She is also planning to visit the startup incubators T-Hub and WE Hub to study how the startup ecosystem has been built and how the incubators in Estonia such as ‘Startup Estonia’ can partner with the Hyderabad incubators to jointly work on areas such as smart city solutions, information technology, mobility, e-health and edutech. Kivi will also pay a visit to Telangana governor.
“India is soon going to open its Embassy at Estonian capital Tallinn, which will attract more companies from the country, including Hyderabad. The nation is going to host the Minister of External Affairs later this year to open the first resident mission of India. This is expected to further build the relationship between the two countries. We are keen to attract both investments and exports,” she added.
On the student travel scenario, she said, Estonian universities are open to Indian students, and this is why the Estonian Embassy in New Delhi is issuing visas to students if they are already accepted in the Estonian universities. Also, the Estonian government has decided to accept the Indian vaccine certification be it for Covaxin or Covishield, Kivi informed.
