Hyderabad: Tom Cruise is back on the big screen, and this time, it’s for one final adventure as Ethan Hunt. Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning released in India on May 17 and marks the eighth chapter in this legendary action series. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, co-written with Erik Jendresen, and co-produced by Cruise himself, the film brings back familiar faces like Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett.

There’s no need to explain what Mission: Impossible is — if you’ve grown up watching movies, you’ve probably seen at least one. Since 1996, this franchise has kept audiences excited with its thrilling missions, smart twists, and of course, Tom Cruise doing jaw-dropping stunts. It’s rare for a film series to stay this strong for nearly three decades—and still feel fresh.

The movie picks up two months after the last one ended. Ethan is once again on a world-saving mission, this time trying to stop a dangerous AI system called “The Entity” from being misused. The plot takes the team across countries as they race against time.

What’s interesting about this one is its focus on artificial intelligence—it’s a big part of the story and makes the movie feel very current. Unlike some past parts that were all about action, this one leans more on story and suspense, though the action is definitely still there. Submarines, planes, and classic Ethan Hunt stunts—this film has it all.

The film’s visuals stand out. The VFX blends so well into the scenes that it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s not. Everything feels smooth and natural.

However, the film does use some technical terms that might confuse casual viewers. Also, it’s one of those stories where you can’t miss even a single scene—blink and you might lose track of what’s going on.

Although it’s being called the last movie of the series, the ending doesn’t really feel like a full stop. It leaves a lot open, making us wonder: is this truly the end? Some might find that frustrating, but fans of the series will probably enjoy the suspense and possibilities it leaves behind.

Absolutely. Even with an open ending, this movie offers a complete cinematic experience. The action is top-notch, the story is gripping, and Tom Cruise once again proves why he’s the face of this franchise. If you enjoy high-energy, smartly crafted action films, this is one you shouldn’t miss.
