Ethics Committee should discuss CM’s language in House: Prashanth Reddy

The BRS urged the Telangana Assembly’s Ethics Committee to examine alleged abusive language and inappropriate conduct by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and others. The party also sought an opportunity for Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy to present his side

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has urged the State Assembly’s Ethics Committee to discuss the alleged use of abusive language and the conduct of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in the House, former Legislative Affairs Minister and Ethics Committee member V. Prashanth Reddy said.

In an informal interaction with media persons at the Assembly on Saturday, Prashanth Reddy said the issue concerning Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy had been included in the Ethics Committee’s meeting agenda based solely on statements made by Congress members.

“On the day the controversy over Padi Kaushik Reddy’s comments arose, 23 Congress MLAs were made to speak in the Assembly. How can that be considered the ‘mood of the House’?” he asked.

The Ethics Committee met on Saturday to discuss complaints received against Kaushik Reddy regarding his conduct in the House. Prashanth Reddy said the BRS strongly presented its arguments during the meeting and urged the committee to give Kaushik Reddy an opportunity to present his side.

Members of other parties spoke after watching videos of the Assembly proceedings shown during the meeting, he said.

“We requested the Chairman to have the Ethics Committee discuss the alleged use of abusive language by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy,” Prashanth Reddy said.

The BRS has also submitted a formal written complaint to the Ethics Committee against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and MLAs Danam Nagender, Veerlapalli Shankar and Mandula Samuel over their alleged inappropriate remarks and behaviour in the House.

“We provided videos of their remarks as evidence. The Chairman assured us that a decision on our request would be taken,” he added.
