Sangareddy: Former Andole MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran accused Congress government and contractor of lacking any commitment in completing the repair works in time.
The former BRS MLA along with other party leaders examined the progress of the repair works on the dam and lining works of Singur canals on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Kranthi Kiran said that the works would not be completed even after two years if they continued at the same pace.
Stating that the irrigation department had let over 20 TMCft of water go to waste downstream while taking up the works during the last December, he exposed lack of coordination between officials and contractor.
The former MLA said that the works were taken up from either end of the dam instead of completing the works close to the dam. He said that they could have at least stored 10 to 12 TMC ft of water had the works close to the crest gates been completed initially. He further expressed his apprehensions over the quality of the works since the contractor used the poor-quality of sand.
Kranthi Kiran said that Health Minister and Andole MLA Damodara Rajanarasimha and irrigation officials have failed to fast-track the works. Since the project had 40,000 acres of ayacut, he asserted, the lack of commitment from the government had pushed the farmers into crisis. Kranthi Kiran accused the irrigation officials of carrying the canal lining works at snail’s pace.
