Hyderabad: The GHMC has a total of 45 ex-officio members who have the right to participate in the civic body proceedings and more crucially, to vote as well. These numbers could prove crucial in electing both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor once the new body is constituted with corporators elected in the December 1 election.

Of the 45 members, 31 are from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), 10 from All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and two are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and two under ‘others’ category. Out of the 31 TRS members, 13 are MLAs and another 13 are MLCs, while there is one Lok Sabha member and four Rajya Sabha members.

Seven MLAs, two MLCs and one MP were among the 10 ex-officio members from the AIMIM while one MP and MLA are from BJP and a Rajya Sabha Member and a MLC from ‘others’.

The support of these ex-officio members could be vital in the election for the Mayor’s post and given highest number of members being from the ruling party, the TRS is poised to retain the Mayor’s post this time also.
