JAGTIAL: Former sarpanch Dasari Shankaraiah died by suicide in Bibirajpalli village of Gollapalli mandal, reportedly unable to cope with mounting debts incurred for village development works.
Shankaraiah consumed pesticides in a mango orchard on Monday, family members said.
Shankaraiah had taken up various developmental works in the village over the last two years by borrowing around Rs 10 lakh. However, bills for the works remained unpaid even after two years, leading to intense pressure from moneylenders.
Unable to withstand the financial strain, he ended his life, relatives said.
