Hyderabad: The Gachibowli police arrested two persons on charges of unlawful assembly, rioting and assaulting public servants during the protest at Kancha Gachibowli village on the city suburbs on Sunday.
The accused were identified as B Rohit Kumar and Erram Naveen Kumar, ex-students of the University of Hyderabad (UoH).
On Sunday, the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) initiated development work at the site situated at Kancha Gachibowli. The duo along with a group of people allegedly belonging to the UoH had gathered at the site and tried to stop the ongoing work. They further attacked with sticks and stones resulting in injuries to an ACP, the police said.
Following which, the Gachibowli police took 53 protestors under preventive custody. Based on a complaint from TGIIC, the Gachibowli police booked a case and arrested the duo.
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Police have clarified that there was no lathi charge on the students nor were any students dragged from their hostels as being alleged.
