Hyderabad: The Prohibition and Excise Department seized about 40 kg of ganja worth Rs 20 lakh in three separate cases in Khammam district, arrested one person, and seized a car and two motorcycles used for transporting the contraband.
Khammam Deputy Commissioner of Excise Somireddy said the seizures were made in coordinated operations carried out by the Excise Enforcement team. The total quantity of ganja seized in the three cases was 40 kg, with an estimated market value of Rs 20 lakh.
In the first case, the enforcement team intercepted a car transporting 27 kg of ganja allegedly from Odisha. The officials arrested Vinay Sarkar, who was found transporting the contraband, and seized the car used in the offence.
In the second case, the sleuths recovered 6.8 kg of ganja from the possession of Moosa Ravikumar and seized a motorcycle.
In another case, officials seized 6.2 kg of ganja from the possession of Velpula Bharat Kumar and confiscated another motorcycle.
The official said Thalla Dhanaraj and Gaddam Shankar, along with another suspect, were absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused, he added.
