Hyderabad: The Indian Dental Association (IDA), Deccan Branch on Mondays urged Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), KT Rama Rao to exempt its members from the purview of GO Ms No 68, which does not allow commercial establishments in Hyderabad to display name boards on their rooftops. The IDA Deccan branch also urged MA&UD officials not to impose hefty penalties on dentists who use signages to display their dental healthcare facilities in Hyderabad.
The MA&UD in the Government Order (GO), in addition to not allowing commercial establishments to display their names on rooftops of the buildings, has permitted only one name board, which should not exceed 15 percent of the frontage of the building. It has also prohibited the use of name boards with flashing lights, non-static illumination and devices with variable or rotating messages because they distract motorists.
Based on these guidelines, the GHMC has issued notices to dental clinics saying that they displayed two or more boards on their dental clinics or have kept illuminating boards, etc.
“We are Dental doctors and we have to display ‘plus’ sign, which is a recognition of Doctors. The signage is not an illuminating device to distract motorists, but the GHMC is unnecessarily issued notices to dental clinics and is imposing heavy fines,” IDA, Deccan in a letter to MA&UD Minister, said.
Also, the dental clinics have placed two or three signboards of very small size on their dental clinics, which will not affect anything. Since dental profession is not a commercial activity, we request you to exempt dental clinics from the ambit of the GO no 68 and direct GHMC not to impose penalties,” IDA Deccan said.
