Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister, KT Rama Rao on Monday instructed Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) to expedite works related to the establishment of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs).

The MA&UD Minister on Monday conducted a detailed review of various initiatives taken up by HMWS&SB, including construction of new Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), free water supply scheme and other infrastructure development works across GHMC and peripheries.
The Minister instructed officials to ensure the STPs are constructed within the stipulated time period. A total of 31 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are being installed in addition to the existing 25 STPs, at an estimated cost of Rs 3,866.21 crore. The MA&UD Minister directed officials to ensure beautification efforts are also taken-up on a massive scale at all the upcoming STPs in Hyderabad.

In the review, Minister directed officials to complete works worth Rs 1200 crore related to the second phase of Outer Ring Road (ORR) in another one year. The ORR second phase project involves the HMWS&SB constructing additional service reservoirs for 137 MLD and laying new drinking water pipeline network covering about 2,100 km to supply adequate water to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Gram Panchayats falling under ORR limits but beyond Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) limits.
