Hyderabad: In connection with the implementation of one-way traffic around KBR Park from August 18, public policy experts and environmentalists demanded a public transport, pedestrian and vulnerable road-user impact assessment.

In a representation to the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar, public policy expert Donthi Narasimha Reddy raised concerns about its likely impact on thousands of daily public-transport users, pedestrians, women, elderly persons, children, patients and employees working in the surrounding offices and commercial establishments.

There are several important hospitals and healthcare facilities in and around this area, including cancer-care facilities that serve large numbers of poor and middle-class patients.

The officials must specifically assess the impact of the one-way system on patients, ambulance and patient-access arrangements, and affordable public transport access to hospitals, he said.

All the government agencies concerned must examine various aspects including accessibility, frequency timings, pedestrian safety, hospital access, women’s safety and first/last-mile connectivity, demanded Save KBR Park organiser, Philip Joshua.
