Experts stress importance of good fats for better health
Experts at a nutrition meet in Hyderabad stressed that good fats are essential for brain function, hormone production and overall health. They advocated balanced diets and informed cooking oil choices while highlighting the importance of evidence-based nutrition in preventive healthcare.

Hyderabad: A nutrition meet on the theme, ‘Nutritional Insights and Everyday Value of Rice Bran Oil’, to discuss the importance of evidence-based nutrition and the role of healthy cooking oils in preventive healthcare, was organised by GEF India and the Hyderabad Chapter of the Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN India).
Experts at the session, led by nutritionist Dr Matheen Asrar, emphasised the need to shift the conversation from reducing fat intake to choosing the right quality of fats and following balanced dietary practices. He explained that fats were essential for brain function, hormone production, cell health and vitamin absorption.
Sujata Stephen, General Secretary of the IAPEN Telangana Chapter, said, “Nutrition awareness plays a vital role in improving public health and empowering individuals to make informed dietary choices.”
The interactive session concluded with experts encouraging consumers to adopt a holistic approach to health through balanced nutrition, regular physical activity and informed cooking oil choices.
