Families of two brain-dead women donate organs under Jeevandan

Families of two brain-dead women from Hayathnagar and Karimnagar donated six organs under the State-run Jeevandan initiative. The donations, including kidneys, livers and corneas, helped several needy patients and highlighted the importance of organ donation in saving lives

Hyderabad: Family members of two women, 61-year-old housewife Bushipaka Lakshmi from Hayathnagar and 25-year-old Akkapelly Supriya from Karimnagar, who were declared brain dead, gave their consent to donate the organs of the deceased to needy patients.

A total of six organs were donated to as many needy patients under the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.


On the evening of May 23, Bushipaka Lakshmi (61), a resident of Khas Bagh, Hayathnagar, suddenly fell off a two-wheeler while travelling with her son at Narketpally.

Immediately, her family members shifted her to a private hospital in Hyderabad. After emergency treatment, she was declared brain dead on Tuesday, May 26. Her son, Bushipaka Rajashekar, gave consent to donate her kidney (01), liver (01) and corneas (02), helping four needy patients.

On May 24, Akkapelly Supriya was travelling on a two-wheeler when it lost control and skidded. In the accident, she sustained severe injuries.

Immediately, her family members shifted her to a local private hospital in Jagtial. Later, for better treatment, she was shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad. After emergency treatment, she was declared brain dead on Tuesday. Her husband, Akkapelly Praveen Kumar, gave consent to donate her kidney (01) and liver (01), helping two needy patients.
