Nirmal: An elderly woman and her daughter died by suicide by jumping into an irrigation tank, reportedly following a prolonged health crisis at Bangalpet here on Friday. Police said that Sunkari Laxmibai (80) and her daughter Gouramma (50) took the fatal jump in Vinayaksagar Cheruvu. The women were reportedly depressed after being hit by a health crisis for quite a long time.

Some passersby noticed the bodies and alerted the local police, who retrieved the bodies with the help of divers. While Laxmibai had heart-related complications, Gouramma was a diabetic and her leg was amputated. They were living together in a house. They were financially supported by Laxmibai’s sons.

A case was registered based on a complaint received from the elder son of Laxmibai. Investigation is under way.
