Family disputes drive woman Sarpanch to die by suicide in Nirmal

A 31-year-old woman Sarpanch, Durgam Laharika, died by suicide in Masaipet village of Kaddampeddur mandal, Nirmal district, reportedly after a dispute with her husband.

Nirmal: A woman Sarpanch died by suicide following family disputes at Masaipet village in Kaddampeddur mandal on Friday.

Kaddampeddur SI Sai Kiran said that Durgam Laharika (31), wife of Rajesh ended her life by consuming pesticide following a tiff with her husband. Differences cropped up between the couple for a long time. Elders of the two families tried to resolve the issues, but the couple continued to fight repeatedly. The exact reason for her drastic step is yet to be ascertained.

Hailing from Narsapur village, Laharika was married to Rajesh 14 years ago. The couple has a son and daughter. Laxmi, mother of Laharika lodged a complaint with the police. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against Rajesh. Investigations are underway.
