Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, three members of a family were found dead at their home in Amberpet on Tuesday morning, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide linked to severe financial strain.

The victims were identified as Ram Raj (55), his wife Madhavi (50), and their son Shashank (24).

Ram Raj had been managing a small hotel in Amberpet area and also ran a biryani outlet in Mallepally. According to the police, recent business losses and mounting debts may have pushed the family into deep distress. A handwritten note was recovered from the house, purportedly referring to a financial burden. The note is being examined as part of the investigation.

Police said the incident came to light after Ram Raj allegedly sent a WhatsApp message around 3.15 am to a close friend, hinting at taking an extreme step. Alarmed, the friend rushed to the residence and reportedly found Ram Raj and Madhavi unresponsive. He immediately alerted the police on Dial- 100.

Teams from the Amberpet police station, along with forensic experts, reached the spot and collected evidence. Preliminary investigation suggested that the deaths may not have occurred simultaneously.

Investigators are examining whether Madhavi died first, possibly due to suffocation or strangulation, before Ram Raj and Shashank allegedly ended their lives. However, officials stressed that the exact sequence of events will be confirmed only after forensic and autopsy reports.

Secunderabad Zone Additional DCP Narsaiah said police are exploring all possible angles, including the extent of the family’s financial liabilities and whether there was any external pressure from creditors. “We are verifying all circumstances that may have led to this tragedy. Nothing is being ruled out at this stage,” he said.
