Hyderabad: The family of the man detained after he allegedly threw wooden pieces towards the idol at the Sri Santoshi Mata Temple in Dilsukhnagar on Friday, said he had been suffering from mental health issues and was under treatment.
According to the family, he had returned to Hyderabad from the USA a few months ago and had undergone treatment for his condition both in the USA and Hyderabad. He had reportedly not slept for four days and was behaving abnormally before entering the temple during morning prayers.
He allegedly threw wooden pieces towards the idol before devotees caught him and handed him over to the police.
The incident triggered protests by devotees and Hindu organisations, who demanded action and better security at the temple.
The Chaitanyapuri police are investigating.
