Mancherial: A farmer from Sumputam village in Vemanapalli mandal has alleged that he was abused and assaulted by Neelwai police for refusing to pay a bribe. He submitted a petition to Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Amber Kishore Jha on Thursday evening, seeking action against Neelwai Sub-Inspector Suresh and two constables.
Algam Kishtaiah accused SI Suresh, constable Rakesh and another unidentified constable of abusing and indiscriminately thrashing him when he refused to pay Rs. 10,000 for counselling him and his wife over a domestic dispute on August 11. He claimed he was tortured at the police station in the presence of village elders after being summoned.
The farmer alleged that the SI bore a grudge against him for rejecting the bribe demand. He said the bribe was sought to “resolve” differences between him and his wife, following a complaint lodged by his father-in-law on August 10. “I expressed my inability to pay, which drew the ire of the police official,” he said.
Kishtaiah further alleged that the SI used filthy language, telling him police stations were not meant for resolving disputes between couples. He claimed he now faced a threat to his life from the police for exposing the incident to the media. He urged the Commissioner to order a probe and take stern action against the SI and constables.
