Narayanpet: After running from pillar to post to secure ownership rights over his land, a farmer attempted suicide in front of the District Collector’s Office here on Monday. It is reported that the farmer’s health condition is currently stable. Nadiminti Kanakappa of Kyatanpally village in Damaragidda mandal has been requesting officials to allot ownership rights for his 31 guntas of land due to him.
The farmer alleged that the land was in the possession of his brother Pedda Kanakappa’s wife Hanumamma. Despite the issue being raised in village-level mediation meetings, the matter remained unresolved. Similarly, for the last two years, he has been making rounds of the Damaragidda Tahsildar Office and the Narayanpet Collector’s Office, but there was no relief, according to reports.
On Monday, Kanakappa arrived at the ‘Prajavani’ programme and attempted to consume pesticide. However, disaster was averted when security personnel on duty at the location reacted swiftly and immediately snatched the pesticide container from his hands. Subsequently, Collectorate staff rushed the farmer to the District Hospital.
Meanwhile, family members of Pedda Kanakappa alleged that the land has been under their possession for 40 years and that the farmer resorted to the act solely as a means of intimidation, reports said.
