Adilabad: A farmer attempted to die by suicide by consuming pesticide as he was allegedly depressed over the delay in the shifting of his soya crop by officials from an agriculture marketyard to a warehouse in Boath mandal centre on Friday.

The farmer from Kuchulapur village in Boath mandal, Edmala Mohan Reddy, picked up an argument with the chairman of the agriculture market committee over the delay in shifting his soya produce procured at the yard four days back. He then tried to kill himself by consuming pesticide. His bid, however, was thwarted by other farmers who were present at the spot. Mohan Reddy said that he was vexed at the delay in shifting his soya produce by officials of the Markfed. Asking who would be responsible if the produce was stolen, he said he was staying at the yard protecting the produce for the last four days.
