Mulugu: A farmer whose crops were devastated by the recent hailstorm died, allegedly by suicide, at Motlagudem village in Mulugu.
Yalam Narasimha Rao suffered extensive crop losses due to the untimely rains last week. Having lost all hope of reviving his fortune, he consumed pesticide recently. He was rushed to a private hospital at Hanamkonda in a bid to save his life. Despite efforts by doctors, he died on Sunday.
Former Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy visited the grieving family and demanded that the government provide Rs 1 crore as compensation and a government job for Narasimha Rao’s son.
Highlighting the farmer’s plight, Reddy said that Narasimha Rao owned five acres of land and had leased an additional 20 acres. The crop in his entire land was left devastated by the hailstorm. Reddy urged Minister Seethakka to extend her support to the family, as Narasimha Rao belonged to her constituency.
