Nalgonda: Cotton farmers from Madaram village in Saligouraram mandal blocked a key stretch of the national highway on Tuesday with scattered bales of cotton across the road to draw attention to their grievances.
The protesters accused the local TRR Cotton Mill of stopping purchases of their crop, leaving growers in a financial bind as the harvest season peaks.
The demonstration began around 10 am, when over 50 farmers, many carrying sacks of cotton on their shoulders, marched onto the Hyderabad highway. They unloaded the bales, creating a makeshift blockade that halted traffic for nearly two hours. Farmers stood up on the highway chanting slogans demanding immediate action from the mill management and local officials.
“This is our months of hard work under the sun, and now the mill turns us away without a reason,” resented the protesters, who called off the protest following police intervention.
