Nirmal: Farmers from the Abdullahpur village in Kuntala mandal staged a rasta-roko on a road demanding the government to take steps to address the delay in procuring paddy produce on Thursday.
The farmers blocked the traffic on Bhainsa-Nirmal Road, 20 kilometres away from their village, affecting traffic for around two hours and causing inconvenience to motorists. They raised slogans against the government for delaying the process of procurement of paddy grains belonging to Vanakalam season. They regretted that the paddy produce was not being weighed at centres.
The agitating farmers said they boycotted the ongoing caste census to protest the delay in procurement of the paddy produce. They also criticized the government for failing to implement crop loan waiver in a full-fledged manner.
They withdrew the protest when Bhainsa RDO Komal Reddy assured them of procuring the paddy at the earliest as per norms of the government. Reddy promised to monitor the process of weighing the grains at Abdullahpur.
