Narayanpet: In sharp contrast to the Congress government’s claims of being a farmer-friendly regime, cases have been booked against cotton farmers for staging a protest and demanding procurement of their stocks.

Cases have also been registered against former BRS MLA C Rammohan Reddy and a few other leaders for extending support to the farmers, with the Maganuru police initiating action, according to reports.

On November 17, nearly 50 farmers staged a protest at the Vadvat Basaweswara Ginning Mill gate on the national highway for four hours. The farmers had carried their stocks in trucks to the ginning mill on the night of November 16 and parked all the vehicles in a queue on the road.

The next morning, the mill management announced that the stocks would not be procured from them. Irked over the decision, the farmers, along with BRS leaders, launched a protest demanding procurement of their stocks.

The police have registered cases against the farmers and BRS leaders for staging the protest and disrupting traffic movement on the highway, reports said.
