Mahabubnagar: Asserting that an industrial park would be set up in Kodangal, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said farmers would have to suffer land losses if development has to take place in the Palamuru region.

Speaking at the Rythu Pandaga programme here, he reasoned that without land acquisition, industries could not be established and jobs could not be provided to youth, also trying to justify his government’s moves by saying that land was acquired in the past for establishing industries and constructing projects.

“Did farmers attack officials during the construction of Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam projects? Had they opposed the works, the projects would not have been completed,” Revanth Reddy said, stating that farmers, especially those in Kollapur and other areas, too had lost their lands for the Srisailam project.

Claiming that it was with the intention of providing 25,000 jobs to unemployed youth that the State government was trying to set up an industrial park at Kodangal, he accused the BRS of creating hurdles and instigating farmers to oppose acquisition of 1300 acres.

Irrespective of the opposition, the industrial park would be set up in Kodangal, he asserted, adding that if need be, the compensation would be increased from Rs.10 lakh per acre to Rs.20 lakh per acre.
Claiming that after being jailed, tribals were approaching him to clear the cases booked against them, he said the Chief Minister and law were different entities. There was no idea on when they would even get bail, he said.

Promising to spend Rs.20,000 crore in a year on development works in Mahabubnagar with Rs.1 lakh crore to be spent in five years, he claimed that water would be supplied to 20 lakh acres in the district. He also said Rs.2,747 crore was released for waiving crop loans of 3.17 lakh farmers in the fourth installment of the crop loan waiver scheme.
