Hyderabad: A delegation of 30 farmers met Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and appealed to him to implement in Karnataka the farmer-friendly welfare programmes introduced by the TRS government, said Turmeric Farmers Association national vice president K Narasimha Naidu.
The farmers’ union leaders from across the country urged the Karnataka Chief Minister to implement Rythu Bandu, Rythu Bima, 24 hours free power supply to the farming community, he said in a statement issued here on Monday.
The farmers urged the Karnataka Chief Minister to procure sugarcane at a minimum support price of Rs.3,500 per tonne. They also wanted the Karnataka Government to extend minimum support price of Rs.15,000 per quintal for turmeric. An appeal was made to abolish GST on turmeric and other commercial crops for the benefit of farmers.
On the appeal to implement Telangana’s farmers’ welfare programmes, Bommai assured that the government would examine it, l, said Naidu, who was part of the delegation.
After Karnataka, the farmers union leaders will meet Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and appeal to them to implement Telangana’s farmer-friendly policies and programmes in their respective States, he said.
The farmers also resolved to make similar appeals to other Chief Minister’s in the country.
