Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at the HMDA office in Maitrivanam, Ameerpet, on Monday as farmers staged a protest against the upcoming Regional Ring Road (RRR) project.
Agitated farmers gathered in large numbers, raising slogans and demanding justice for their grievances related to the project. Security was tightened at the premises to prevent any untoward incidents.
The HMDA authorities had issued a preliminary notification for a 100-metre-wide Regional Ring Road within the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region, covering eight districts, including Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Medak, Vikarabad, Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Mahabubnagar districts, 33 mandals, and 163 villages.
A detailed survey, including numbers and digital maps, was published on the HMDA website, inviting objections and suggestions from farmers by September 15.
On Monday, the last date for submission of objections, farmers queued in front of the HMDA office from 10 am onwards and submitted their objections.
Farmers of these areas have strongly protested that they would lose large-scale, fertile land, receive unfair compensation, and demand the restoration of the original alignment.
