Farmers protest at Nizampet Tahsildar office, accuses MRO of turning corrupt

Farmers and landholders from villages in Nizampet mandal protested at the Tahsildar's office, alleging revenue officials demanded Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for land registration. They also accused officials of colluding with a Mee Seva operator

Sangareddy: Farmers and landholders from villages in Nizampet mandal staged a protest at the Nizampet Tahsildar’s office, accusing revenue department officials of demanding bribes ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for the registration of one acre of land.

They accused revenue officials of colluding with the Mee Seva centre operator at the mandal headquarters to collect bribes from farmers. Targeting Tahsildar Naga Jyothi in particular, the farmers raised slogans against her. The farmers were preparing to lodge a complaint with Sangareddy Collector Parteek Jain.

They urged the government to conduct a probe into the functioning of the entire revenue office and the role of the Mee Seva operator. The farmers alleged that unless the bribe was paid, revenue officials delayed processing their files, pushing landholders into trouble.

They said the revenue office had fixed an amount for processing each application. They carried files that had been pending with the department for quite a long time to the protest.
