Farmers are taking up repairing works on Singur left bank canal at Minpur in Pulkal mandal of Sanagreddy district on Monday
Sangareddy: Farmers in Andole constituency took up repair of breaches to the Singur canal at their own expense after the government machinery failed to act, despite repeated appeals.
Two breaches occurred on the canal between Basavapur and Minpur in Pulkal mandal about 20 days ago following heavy rains and release of water from Singur. The overflow inundated agricultural fields, causing extensive crop damage. Just two days earlier, another breach had occurred on the Singur left bank canal at Isojipet, which Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha inspected. Though he directed officials to take up immediate restoration, no follow-up action was taken.
Frustrated by the inaction, farmers of Minpur and Basavapur pooled resources and repaired the breaches themselves.
Reacting to the issue, former Andole MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran demanded that the government restore canals and tanks damaged during the August rains. He alleged that while Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues were preoccupied criticising former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, officials failed to address urgent public problems. He lauded the farmers for their initiative in protecting their fields.
