Siddipet: The farmers of Ankampet and Sitharampally in Siddipet rural mandal staged a ‘rasta roko’ on Lakshmidevipally main road on Monday, demanding that the Irrigation Department release Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) water into the Ankamet village lake.
The farmers said that the crops in both the villages had started drying up as the department officials ignored their repeated appeals to release water into the lake. The farmers said that the impounding of Ankampet lake was mandatory to meet the irrigation needs of Yasangi. Since the harvesting season would commence a month later, the farmers said that the crops would not survive unless the lake was impounded with Godavari water.
The farmers also said that if the government did not respond to their requests, they would stage another massive protest in Siddipet.
