FedEx courier scam: Hyderabad man loses Rs 10 Lakh
The victim reportedly received a call from a scammer posing as a FedEx courier executive. The caller, who had access to the victim's Aadhaar details and phone number, alleged that a parcel containing 2 kg of clothes and 150 strips of LSD had been booked from Mumbai to Singapore in the victim's name.
Hyderabad: A 44-year-old private employee from the city was duped of Rs 10 lakh by cyber fraudsters in the guise of FedEx courier services.
As per available information, the victim received call from the scammer who claimed to be an executive from FedEx courier services. The caller had access to the victim’s Aadhaar and phone number and claimed that a parcel containing 2 kg of clothes and 150 strips of LSD had been booked from Mumbai to Singapore.
According to the police, the fraudster alleged that the Mumbai police were investigating a drug case and the victim’s name was linked to it. Furthermore, the fraudster mentioned that 29 bank officials had been arrested in connection with this case. The call was then transferred to a supposed representative of the Mumbai Narcotics Department. The victim was directed to download Skype and call the fraudster on the provided ID.
Putting under pressure, the suspects made the victim transfer nearly Rs 10 lakh into their bank accounts. Later, realizing that he had been scammed, the victim approached the cybercrime police and lodged a complaint.
