Khammam/Warangal: There seems to be no end to the woes of farmers in getting fertilisers as there has been a shortage of various grades of fertilisers, such as urea in the State in this Vanakalam season.
Farmers were forced to wait for hours in long queues for urea, following which BRS cadres staged protests demanding the supply of required quantities of fertilisers, at different places in erstwhile Khammam and Warangal districts on Saturday.
Former Yellandu MLA Haripriya Naik, along with senior leader Dindigala Rajender staged a dharna at the local warehouse demanding that enough urea be supplied to the farmers.
Speaking to the media, Haripriya said that farmers are suffering under the Congress rule. Even as several weeks have passed since the onset of the monsoon and the start of agriculture work, the State government failed to supply urea to farmers causing problems for farmers. The scarcity of fertilisers was unprecedented and farmers never faced trouble getting urea during BRS rule, she said.
Even as the Agriculture Minister, Revenue Minister and Finance Minister belong to Khammam district, they failed to address the issue, Haripriya Naik complained. The BRS leaders later submitted a memorandum to district agriculture officer Babu Rao, seeking the supply of urea to farmers.
In Bhupalpally district, farmers were forced to wait for long hours for urea at PACS warehouse at Mogullapalli mandal headquarters. The farmers complained that they have to keep their footwear in the queue and wait since morning. They demanded that the government respond and provide enough urea.
Similarly, farmers were compelled to wait for the arrival of trucks carrying urea supplies at Paladugu in Wyra mandal. As the Gollapudi PACS warehouse was in dilapidated condition the officials shifted the distribution point to Paladugu village but the stock did arrive on time.
