Hyderabad: Despite the government and local body schools conducting health check-ups for the pupils such as vaccinations, deworming, dermatology, ENT, eye care testing and including a full body assessment, only six percent of these education institutions have issued health cards to students.
These cards help parents and medical practitioners to keep a track of student’s health issues, if any.
As per the mid-day meal social audit report for 2024, significant inter-district variations were observed in various parameters of student health check-ups and well-being.
At 69.5 percent and 54.6 percent, Suryapet and Vikarabad districts respectively have reported poor interventions in conducting regular student health check-ups. However, 100 percent of schools in 21 out of 33 districts organised regular health check-ups. But none of the schools in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Vikarabad districts reported having an emergency medical plan.
As per the findings, two-thirds of the schools conducted health check-ups with the support from doctors and ANMs (Auxiliary nurse midwives). Almost all schools reported taking up a comprehensive approach to health education covering topics, including sanitation, hygiene, safe drinking water, disease prevention, hygiene and safety.
