Final rites of Maoist leader Madhukar conducted in Asifabad
Madhukar (38) who was the divisional secretary, working under the Dandakaranya Special Zone Divisional Committee (DKSZC), died while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in Hyderabad
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Final rites of Maoist leader Gaddam Madhukar alias Mohan or Shobroy were conducted at his native place Kondapalli village in Penchikalpet mandal on Monday. Madhukar (38) who was the divisional secretary, working under the Dandakaranya Special Zone Divisional Committee (DKSZC), died while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The body of Madhukar was brought to the village from Hyderabad to Kondapalli in the midnight. Father Bapu, siblings Sudhakar, Raju and Bhagya lamented that they could not speak to him even after he was arrested in Warangal recently. A large number of locals made a beeline to take a glimpse of the body. The residents contributed timber for burning the body, which was taken to a crematorium in a procession. Some former extremists belonging to the village, who took part in the funeral. Incidentally, the body was covered with a red color flag to mark his association with the banned Maoist party.
Meanwhile, Sirpur (T) MLA Koneru Konappa extended financial aid of Rs 10,000 to the kin of the extremists. His followers handed over the funds to family members. It was learned that policemen kept a tab on the final rites, expecting participation of extremists. The cops, who clad in civil dress, observed the entire programme and left the village by afternoon.
Madhukar was attracted to ideology of the then CPI-ML People’s War when he was 16. He was involved in several offences including killing of the police personnel and snatching away the weapon. He was taken into custody when came to Warangal for treatment on June 2 last.
