Hyderabad: The State government registered an FIR against eight BRS leaders for attempting to submit a representation to the MRO, seeking protection of eight acres of government land in Survey No. 157/1 in Secunderabad Cantonment. The BRS leaders demanded that the land, valued at around Rs 800 crore, be retained by the government and used to construct 6,000 Indiramma houses for the poor instead of allowing a proposed shopping mall.

According to BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank, a case was registered at Karkhana Police Station under Sections 223 and 126(2) read with 3(5) of the BNS, and Section 21/76 of the CP Act, against him and seven other BRS leaders, including four former Cantonment Board members.

He questioned the government on why those demanding protection of government land for public housing were being booked while alleged attempts to divert it for commercial use continued. He said the BRS would pursue legal and democratic means to ensure the land was preserved for public use and utilised for the proposed housing project.
